There is medical advice that excessive exposure to sunshine when young can cause problems in later life. The best protection is clothing and Health Authorities advise that children wear suitable clothing with a hat and are protected by sun cream of at least factor 15.
An apron to protect clothes during craft activities should also be provided and kept in school - an old adult shirt worn backwards is perfectly adequate.
